Ms. Scafuri works with clients on all matters of family law, including litigation, mediation/arbitration and post-judgment issues. She regularly assists clients with issues such as alimony and child support, custody and parenting time, equitable distribution, retirement, same-sex divorce and dissolution, the drafting of pre-marital, separation and property settlement agreements and domestic violence matters. Adding to her depth of practice, Ms. Scafuri practiced complex commercial litigation before devoting herself full time to family law matters. Her business background compliments her family law focus, as she is particularly effective in addressing sophisticated equitable distribution and business issues.
Ms. Scafuri is an accredited mediator in both family and civil matters and is a trained Collaborative Law attorney. She is one of the few trained mediators in New Jersey authorized to mediate cases that include a domestic violence Final Restraining Order.
Ms. Scafuri is admitted to the roster of Mediators for Economic Aspects of Family Law Cases for several New Jersey counties including Morris, Essex, Somerset, Bergen and Hudson counties. She is also admitted to the roster of Civil Mediators for the Superior Court of New Jersey for Morris, Essex, Somerset, Warren, Bergen and Passaic counties. In addition, Ms. Scafuri serves as a Matrimonial Early Settlement Panelist for Morris County, and volunteers her time for the New Jersey Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project of Morris County and the Morris County family Law Self Help Clinic. She has also donated her time to service men and women through the American Bar Association's Pro Bono Military Project.
In addition to her clients, Ms. Scafuri is recognized as a leader among her peers. She has been named in the Best Lawyers In America in the areas of Family Law and Family Law Mediation. She has also been selected to the New Jersey Super Lawyers and New Jersey Monthly as one of the state’s top attorneys and has been recognized by her peers as one of the “Top 40 Under 40” by the New Jersey Law Journal.
Most recently, Ms. Scafuri was recognized as 'Top Lawyer in Morris County' in Morris/Essex Health & Life Magazine for 2020, named to Best Lawyers in America for both Family Law and Family Law Mediation for 2020 and selected to New Jersey Super Lawyers for 2020. Ms. Scafuri served two terms to the District XA Ethics Committee, having been appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court.
M. Scafuri serves on the Executive Board for the New Jersey Association for Justice Matrimonial Committee and the Morris County Bar Association. Currently, Ms. Scafuri is the President of the Morris County Bar Foundation and serves as the Second Vice President to the Association. She is the Immediate Past President of the Family Law Section for the American Association for Justice.
Ms. Scafuri is a frequent speaker and author on a variety of topics, including family law, ethics and social media for educational providers including NJICLE, NJAJ and Lawline. She presents regularly at local and national conferences and seminars. She has also been featured on 77WABC radio show.
